We offer classes for every level!

When joining for your first class, please contact us first to check availability.

When coming for your free trial class please wear comfortable clothes in which you can move, bring dedicated indoor training shoes or be prepared to train in socks, and bring water.

Taijiquan Classes at

Makoto Newcomen

Beginners Yang Taiji

Wednesdays (Makoto)
6:30pm – 7:30pm

Sundays- Indoor (Makoto)
9am –10am

Calm, circular and continuous, learn the foundation of simplified 24 Form Taijiquan. Basic breathing and meditation (Qigong) and two person skills (Push Hands) are also covered.

Intermediate & Advanced Taiji Mornings

Tuesdays and Thursdays
10:40am – 11:40am

This class continues with a review of a variety of empty hand routines, and the study of the Chen 18.

Tuesday Evenings

Each half hour offers a different aspect of study. You can do all of them, or just focus on one or two.

Push Hands and Applications

7:15pm – 7:45pm

Two person practice focusing on gaining a higher level of skill and awareness through the safely executed physical feedback of a partner. This class requires you to have completed beginner level form, or currently be studying a taiji form or weapon.

Empty Hand Form

7:45pm – 8:15pm

Once a foundation has been started the lessons continue. Styles and routines vary by the class make-up and the cycles. of learning. The various forms may include, but are not limited to, Yang, Chen, Sun, Combined styles, and special family and other internal systems. The options are very broad.We will be studying the 42 Form Combined in the Tuesday evening class and in the morning classes.It also depends on who shows up for class.

Taiji Weapons: Straight Sword Basics

8:15pm – 8:45pm

Learn to focus and extend your energy through the practice of the Taiji sword. This class is open to students of all levels. This winter we will be studying 32 Straight Sword and also doing some two person work.

Advanced Class

Thursdays
7:15pm – 8:15pm

The various forms may include, but are not limited to, Yang, Chen, Sun, Combined styles, and special family and other internal systems. The options are very broad. Currently the focus is on Chen style 74.

Sundays
10:00am – 11:00am

Show up to practice advanced concepts. This class is open to those who have completed at least one set of choreography. We are currently studying Chen Xinjia (New Frame) 83.
